Hi, we are so happy that you are here!

We are Marten and Simone and live with our three sons and some sheep near Bremen in Northern Germany on an old farm. Marten has been part of the yarn label Raincloud and Sage for the last few years and co-founded the company.

With our label Soil Yarn we are embarking on a new wool adventure in which our focus is on the production of sustainable wool. We make yarns for creative people because we believe that (especially in this digital age) creating something with your own hands gives people deep joy and boosts their self-esteem.

Our focus is on pure wool sourced as locally as possible. To this end, we have regional wool spun into beautiful yarns in a spinning mill – all of this takes place in Germany.

At Soil Yarn we try to work as transparent and local as possible and if we source specific wool from sustainable sources in neighboring European countries we always label this.

Why the name Soil Yarn?

We chose the name Soil Yarn because we are fascinated by the rich meaning of soil - everything grows from soil, including the grass for our sheep, which nourishes them and allows these beautiful animals to produce their wonderful wool.

Wir sind Marten und Simone und leben mit unseren drei Söhnen und einigen Schafen in der Nähe von Bremen in Norddeutschland auf einem alten Hof. Marten war einige Jahren Teil des Wollelabels Raincloud and Sage und Mitbegründer des Unternehmens.

Mit unserem Label Soil Yarn begeben wir uns auf ein neues Wollabenteuer, bei dem unser Fokus auf der Produktion von nachhaltiger Wolle liegt.

Wir stellen Garne für kreative Menschen her und machen das, weil wir der Überzeugung sind, dass es (besonders in dieser digitalen Zeit) Menschen tiefe Freude schenkt und ihren Selbstwert fördert, wenn sie etwas mit ihren eigenen Händen schaffen.

Unser Fokus liegt dabei auf reiner Wolle, so lokal wie möglich gewonnen. Dafür lassen wir regionale Wolle in einer Spinnerei zu wunderschönen Garnen verspinnen – all das geschieht in Deutschland.

Bei Soil Yarn versuchen wir, so transparent und lokal wie möglich zu arbeiten, und wenn wir bestimmte Wolle aus nachhaltigen Quellen in benachbarten europäischen Ländern beziehen, kennzeichnen wir dies immer.

Warum der Name Soil Yarn?

Wir haben den Namen Soil Yarn gewählt, weil uns die reiche Bedeutung der Erde fasziniert – alles wächst aus dem Boden, auch das Gras für unsere Schafe, das sie ernährt und es diesen wunderschönen Tieren ermöglicht, ihre wunderbare Wolle zu produzieren.

We are a small family business and we try to work with local suppliers and companies as much as possible to produce our wool right here in Germany.
